Freshman Academy

WHS Freshman Academy Mission Statement

The WHS Freshman Academy exists to mentor a small group of students throughout their first year of high school while acting as a liaison between our students, parents and the educational community. The program seeks to create a smooth transition from 8th to 9th grade while fostering relationships and building school and community pride.

  • Establish rapport between the mentor and each student
  • Foster WHS pride and spirit
  • Develop character building and teamwork
  • Establish informal communication with students concerning academic progress and attendance issues
  • Encourage the development of study habits
  • Assist with goal setting and developing methods to achieve those goals

Freshman Academy was initiated during the 2008-2009 school year.

It consists of a team of 15 teachers from a variety of disciplines.

Freshman academy is DYNAMIC, INTERACTIVE and FLEXIBLE to meet the changing needs of our students.

While working towards the Academy goals, WHS Freshmen participate and enjoy a wide variety of activities including ice breakers, dodge ball, cards for the troops, spirit week door decorating and scavenger hunts.
