Student Learning

Early College Program-Through a partnership with Vincennes University, students at WHS can earn up to 35 college credits while in high school. Dual credit courses include: Physical Education, Computer Applications, VU Composition, Human Anatomy, Advanced Biology, French IV and Spanish IV.
School Improvement Plan-We are focusing on incorporating research proven instructional strategies based on the research of Robert Marzano. Emphasis is placed on comprehension strategies in all content areas that help students retain information more effectively.

Daily Reading Program-Students have the opportunity to read selections of their choice on a daily basis through a homeroom class. In addition, students reading below grade level participate in support interventions to improve reading levels each week.

Ed Tech Grant-Our Language Arts department is involved in a two year project with the Indiana Department of Education, in partnership with Pike Central High School. Through this grant opportunity, WHS offers a one to one student to computer ratio in Language Arts classrooms. Our Language Arts faculty is incorporating technology based instruction through this model, including on-line resources such as Moodle to support student learning.

Hybrid Schedule-WHS runs on a traditional seven period day, with selected hands-on courses running on a block 4 format. These courses include: Physical Education, Internship, Cadet Teaching, and Service Learning
